Some problems with the kernel of NetBSD-0.9a compiled on Apr 16, 23:13
by cgd@sun-lamp:

My ethernet controller 3C503 8-bit does not get detected
by the new kernel. OK with NetBSD-0.9 dist. kernel (devicename ed1:)

A device by name 'ie0' is not present but gives the following bogus
  display:

	ie0: unknown AT&T board type code 0
ie0: can't map 3C507 RAM in high memory

(What is ie0: and all the rest of new ethernet devices? Which one
is the new 3C509?)

The XFree86-2.0 X_S3 Server is screwed up: Windows does not get filed
and menues that drop down is just displayed as the frame. Moving the
mouse in the pull-down menu sometimes makes the menu items apper and
sometimes the see-thru background just get inverted.

(I'm in the slow process of getting XFree86-2.1 downloaded.)

All of this happens on a i486-DX2 66MHz with 16Mb memory. It is an Intel
PCI machine with a PCI SPEA/Video7 S3-928 VGA card.

When the video is changed to a WD90C30 with 1Mb the console gets
srewed up during the boot. As far as I can see it happens when the above
ie0: starts to display its bougus messages. The lines on the console starts
in the middle of the screen and lines does not get scrolled the rigth way.
The console cursor stays in the rigth place thow. But the text is someware
else one the screen.

The distributed NetBSD-0.9 is OK on the machine. I've even tryed running
it on a Intel PCI Pentium-66MHz without any hickups. The XFree86-2.0 X_S3
Server is blazing fast on this baby.

A question about the following note in CHANGES for NetBSD-current:

>	changes to support running of Windows executable via Wine. Changes
> to the kernel activated with "USER_LDT" option. New syscalls
> are in new architecure specific library - libarch/libi386.
> (brezak)

What is "Wine"? Do you mean a MS Windows 3.1 emulator or what?

TIA
