hmm.  i got identical behaviour between Ultrix vi and nvi; in an
xterm, both accept ^H for deleting a character in input mode.
(and yes, my erase character is set to ^?...)

I get the same behaviour on a pc3 console, too...

are you running the latest nvi, in -current?
