Changes to the NetBSD Packages Collection in August 1999
========================================================

In August, we again had a busy month.  The tools and infrastructure
have been changed to recognise package names without extra wildcards,
wildcard dependencies have been activated, and a (very experimental)
"update" target have been added.  Please use this with caution, and
send-pr bugs as usual.  We have also added a README-all file, which
gives a list of all the packages in the packages collection - thanks
to Hubert for this.

Notable additions to the packages collection include:  base64, canna,
cxref, ggv, gtkstep, hylafax, Japanese packages for mh, nvi and
various input methods, lame, libgetopt, liblzo, rvplayer,
Linux-compatible (SuSE) development tools, tkdiff, tkhylafax, viewfax,
vim-gtk, xhangglider, xmysql, xp, and xscrabble.

Notable updated packages include:  afterstep-current (thanks, Fred),
bison, cdk, controlcenter, ddd, delegate, ethereal, fetchmail (as
ever, thanks, Thorsten), gcombust (thanks, Rene), glade, glib,
gnome-core, gnome-utils, gnumeric, gtk, guile, hylafax, ircII, kaffe,
mrtg, mutt, nn, ntp4, pth, R, ruby, rxvt, screen, sketch, sudo, tcsh,
teTeX, vim, xemacs (thanks, Matthias), xsane, zebra and zoularis.

Many thanks go to Greg Oster for making 650 binary packages for
1.4.1/m68k available for download.

And, finally:  the package of the month award goes to tkcvs and tkdiff
(personally I find tkdiff almost priceless, and has me wondering what
I did before it came along -  I don't use emacs or ediff).  The close
runner-up is x2x, purely for the functionality it gives. Please keep
those nominations coming in.

Changes to the packages collection itself

	Updated pkg_install to 19990819 [tron 1999-08-19]

	pkg_info and pkg_delete accept their arguments now without
		the package version. If no matching package is found
		to be installed, "-[0-9]*" is attached and the
		search retried. Works with all options to pkg_delete(1)
		and pkg_info(1). [hubertf 1999-08-19]

	bsd.pkg.mk: "make deinstall" now removes any version installed,
		not only the one currently in pkgsrc. [hubertf 1999-08-21]

	pkgsrc/Makefile: added "readme-all" target, to generate a list of
		all packages currently available, together with the category
		they belong to and a short description. All generated
		README.html files now contain links to this list, too.

	Updated pkg_install to 19990823; new features: fixes PR 8250 by

	bsd.pkg.mk: expand wildcard dependences for binary packages so that
		wildcards can be used at source level without breaking
