pkg_chk and pkg_comp along with /usr/src/build.sh are certainly
some of the most important tools for managing 3rd party packages.
I have often done advocacy with success by explaining to people
how these tools work and how they enable you to maintain a large
server farm easily. That without criticizing other BSDs/Linux
systems. People are often shocked at the ease of maintaining a 
large server farm with that system.
