as an anecdotal data point, my (now hopelessly decrepit) compaq 3000
dual CPU machine seems to do fine. it's been up for three weeks now and
even ntpd appears to have settled.

mainbus0: Intel MP Specification (Version 1.4) (COMPAQ PROLIANT )
cpu0: Intel Pentium II (Klamath) (686-class), 299.55 MHz, id 0x633
cpu1: Intel Pentium II (686-class), 299.52 MHz, id 0x651

my dual-processor sparc 20 has been delivering mail for two weeks now
and also appears to be working well; with the exception of ntp drift
issues.

mainbus0 (root): SUNW,SPARCstation-20: hostid 72736d12
cpu0 at mainbus0: mid 8: TMS390Z50 v0 or TMS390Z55 @ 50 MHz, on-chip FPU
cpu1 at mainbus0: mid 10: TMS390Z50 v0 or TMS390Z55 @ 50 MHz, on-chip FPU

I'm running 2.0_BETA GENERIC.MP on both of them.
