I use TextMaker for most work. It is very light, and 
opens/writes Word files fairly well. It is frame based,
so it is useful for light DTP too.

The only disadvantage is that it is not opensource. But
the Linux version works perfectly under Linux
emulation. 
(They provide a native FreeBSD version)
