How about email like:

Hi, I work with the group that mandates network security
policy at -----. Recently, we have received a number of
requests to allow traffic supporting the SETI@home application
through the firewall. I would like the opportunity to evaluate
the application, to help our group make a decision about
allowing this traffic. I noted on the web site that the
platform I need to use for the evaluation (NetBSD/-----) is
not supported by the current SETI@home software. I'd
appreciate it if you could help me find a way to support this
architecture. If I can be of any assistance (compiling
binaries, for instance), please let me know. The SETI@home
project sounds exciting and I look forward to allowing our
user community to contribute to it.

I don't want to be overtly threatening, but just to plant the idea
that there may be some intangible benefits from supporting NetBSD.
