Right, so at least one Asian company that had a booth at Comdex that i
visited was claiming $1.00/piece (for just the CD; no sleeve) for
minimum quantity 1000.

a buck a piece is probably giveaway price, if you actually think that
the people you're giving them to will look at them.  (unlike, for
instance, the audience for the comdex snapshot CDs; how many people
who're given stuff at an event like that never look at it again?)
