I feel inspired to post a personal antic. A friend graciously gave me a
Toshiba T4800CT laptop. The install boot disk for both Redhat and Debian
would not boot at all. FreeBSD installed, but with the out-of-the-box
configuration, when the power management kicked in, the screen would never
wake up. NetBSD installed perfectly off the floppy disks. It alone
correctly autodetected the embedded audio device, and it alone correctly
detected all of the serial ports. NetBSD had no trouble with the power
management.
