My officemate at work is very involved in the Boston chapter of the
ACM, and knowing that I'm a NetBSD junkie, came to me looking for a
speaker to talk about NetBSD at a future Boston ACM meeting. The ACM
is planning meetings for somewhere in the late September timeframe,
and are willing to schedule the meeting around the speaker's
availability. This isn't really a developers group, apparently more
manager/marketing/general-enthusiasts, and they're looking for an
overview of the differences between NetBSD and Linux, a description of
the NetBSD development model, and any interesting tidbits the speaker
wants to share. The group is technically literate enough to
understand a description of the advantages of a true cross-platform OS
infrastructure -- the talk doesn't have to be truly dumbed down
(previous meetings have covered encryption, e-commerce, CHI design
issues, etc). If anyone is interested in giving a talk, send me mail
and I'll put you in contact with the appropriate person, and feel free
to ask me any questions you may have on the event. I think this would
be a great chance to possibly convert some of the people who actually
make the final decisions on OS choices for a lot of Boston companies.
