No, that's completely wrong. If you draw your own daemon from scratch
you are still infringing Kirk's copyright on the daemon. It is
appropriate to ask permission even if you do it in good taste and for
BSD purposes.
As for the proposed idea, which would not be approved anyway, many
would question what sort of operating system would require people to
act in such bad taste in order to demonstrate superiority. It would
only be bad PR for NetBSD.
