My linux-using brother has bought the P5AB from Asus and had to find out
that Linux 2.2.x doesn't support DMA for its IDE interface board!

Well, NetBSD does. (I've got the P5A (same chipset, ALI-V) and DMA
datatransfers from and to my IDE discs :-)

Linux supports much more devices, OpenBSD is more secure and the earth is
a flat disc.

But: Linux SMP isn't very stable (yet) - someone has posted something about
this lately - and FreeBSD doesn't run that good on Alpha (yet).

Bye,
  Thilo.
