Okay, I've gotten two responses (one from Lawrence, one from Brad Parker)
which claim that the power off can be triggered by one of the VIA chips.
One bad addressing mistake and *poof*, off I go...

So, I've got the ifconfig source, and I'm trying to insert some debugging
code to get a sense of where I'm dying.  I'll let ya'll know when I get it
narrowed down--at which point someone with a better knowledge of what's
going on will hopefully be able to fox the broken piece.
