I think I agree with djb here, but with a (big) caveat: an informed
decision tracks *actual* progress, in qubit count and error rate.  This
may differ significantly from what is claimed in press releases.

Of course, that also means the true values are more difficult for an
outsider to discover.  But being truly informed outside your field *is*
difficult; no way around that.

What I'd _like_ to see is a disinterested (but not uninterested!) party
with the expertise to sort out press-release puffery from fact giving
opinions.  Unfortunately that is unlikely.
