Sounds like the same thing as PR 60467, also reported only under vbox:
PR kern/60467: timers and console keyboard driver broken with 32 GiB
of RAM
https://gnats.NetBSD.org/60467
Can you please add dmesg with `boot -vx' and kern.timecounter output
from working and not-working environments to that PR?
And, do you observe the same timekeeping issue (and keyboard
autorepeat issue) under utm/qemu, or is it just under vbox?
