The external VGA1 display switches to the graphical console but
doesn't pick up any hi-res display modes. X runs but only up to
the 1024x768 mode and has a tremendous amount of display overwriting
and trash so isn't very usable. I use the eepc for more convenient
in-shop testing of QT4-based multi-axis motor controller software
I'm developing and was hoping to use a drm i915 display to speed
up some of the rendering.

With NetBSD 7.99.4 my AMD64/Radeon HD6450 that we discussed a long
time ago finally is mostly working now. There is still also a huge
amount of display trashing and the occassional coredump/crash but
it's at least fairly usable, so progress.

Thanks
