In summary, that only happened because the box panicked, and the
raid sets have all been stuck back together without even the need
to reconstruct with e.g.:

raidctl -G raid4 > raid.conf
raidctl -u raid4
raidctl -u raid6
edit raid.conf sticking them back together
raidctl -C raid.conf raid4
raidctl -A yes raid4
