Greetings.
Two months ago, i had to comment speedstep and coretemp options in GENERIC for my intel core i5. But now (in CURRENT), a vanilla GENERIC config is fine too.
Maybe this problem was fixed too for your i7.

Build a new kernel with
no options ENHANCED_SPEEDSTEP
no options INTEL_CORETEMP
(I think this was fixed in recent current but not sure ...)
