I sincerely recommend XFCE with bits of gnome like the gdm and system
monitor used in XUbuntu. Please install XUBuntu first and try this out
before you reject the idea. Its fast, clean, minimal clutter and will
not be hell to maintain.

Can I suggest all of you travelling-window-manager salespeople go have a summit somewhere else and report your findings back when you're finished?

I especially don't see the point of cross-posting so widely; specifically current-users, port-i386, port-amd64...
