Building -current/netbsd-5 on Solaris: warning for tools/file

Running a build with HOST_CC=gcc on Solaris 10/x86, I get the following warning, which aborts the build:

...
--- file ---
/usr/xpg4/bin/sh ../libtool --tag=CC --mode=link gcc -O -o file file.o
libmagic.la -lz
gcc -O -o file file.o ./.libs/libmagic.a -lz
Making all in magic
--- magic.mgc ---
../src/file -C -m /usr/homes/feyrer/cvs/src-5/tools/file/../../dist/file/magic/magdir
/usr/homes/feyrer/cvs/src-5/tools/file/../../dist/file/magic/magdir, 1:

file: could not find any magic files!
*** [magic.mgc] Error code 255

This doesn't happen when building on NetBSD and Linux.

How to fix?
