What does the following indicate?

# fsck /dev/xbd1a
** /dev/rxbd1a
** Last Mounted on /
** Phase 1 - Check Blocks and Sizes
** Phase 2 - Check Pathnames
BAD STATE 0 FOR INODE I=40

Is there a way to repair other than reformatting the partition andrestoring?
