Can you try to use e.g. USB disks and leave the viaide completely alone?

Well, right now, I'm not having any of these issues. The one machine that was hanging is now running solid since I've disabled memory above 4GB. The problem seemed to happen only under extremely heavy CPU and I/O load (ie, when I had a 'build.sh -j8 release' going on the quad-core AMD).

I don't have any USB disks, but I rather suspect that the slower performance would probably just mask the symptoms anyway.

I'm still having ipf/ipnat issues on another machine, but that's a different can of worms. :)
