That also fixes my boot problems.
The tracing I have still shows:

wsdisplay0: screen 4 added (80x25, vt100 emulation)
specfs_open: dev 1, sd_opencnt 1, sn_opencnt 1
specfs_open: dev 0, sd_opencnt 0, sn_opencnt 0

ie an error on wd0b, presumably from something in one of the rc scripts.
