I am trying to get NetBSD 4.0/i386 installed on a machine with 2GB RAM
and a bce(4) network chip. Consequently, I need to throttle the
memory to 1GB using REALEXTMEM. However, it seems that the kernel
reports 2GB of total memory regardless of the setting of REALEXTMEM
and the bce driver complains of data errors. Throttling the memory
back to 1GB like this used to work on the same machine with source
code from mid-2006 (sys/arch/i386/i386/machdep.c v1.575).

Where should I be looking to solve this problem?

Thanks for your help.

Cheers,
Brook
