So it differs significantly from the other

I'm a bit confused -- you call it "E220", but the
autoconf output says "HUAWEI Mobile", which are
different devices according to usbdevs.

It would be useful if you could post a dump of
the USB descriptor space, eg woth "usbctl"
from the "usbutil" pkg.
