Nonsense.  Hardcoding is going backwards.  As I said before, the
difference between hardcoding escape sequences and the way libcurses
does things is very very minimal in terms of code impact.  Anybody who
believes that redraw optimisation is not required at this level has
never experienced full screen redraws over 9600 baud modem link over a
flaky international phone line.

Why can we not even consider doing this in a manner than can be
flexible?
