Maybe it is. Try yourself. I used to build with COPTS=-g, now I use
separate debugging packages with debugging symbols that you can enable
with MKDEBUG=Yes.

Please note, that attempt to create a boot floppy will probably fail,
because binaries with debugging symbols won't fit.
