I started seeing this too after replacing my 3.99.10/20051016
with a 3.99.10/20051031 (from two hours ago). I didn't update
the userland, in case it matters, since there was no kernel
version bump.

So it's rather new breakage. Didn't have time to browse
the diff yet.
