current-users: disklabeling CF fails

happy new year!

i'm not able to disklabel CF cards on my 2.99.9 (Power Mac G4, macppc), 
i get:

> disklabel: ioctl DIOCWDINFO: Label magic number or checksum is wrong!
> (disklabel or kernel is out of date?)

i tried several CF cards (from 32MByte up to 128MByte), no go :(

this is for building a bootable CF for an appliance.
