I tried updating the kernel on my Thinkpad to 2.99.10 (from 2.0G). With the
previous kernel, I saw:

  aic0 at pcmcia3 function 0: <Adaptec, Inc., APA-1460 SCSI Host Adapter, Version 0.01>: Adaptec APA-1460A SlimSCSI
  scsibus0 at aic0: 8 targets, 8 luns per target
scsibus0: waiting 2 seconds for devices to settle...
  ss0 at scsibus0 target 4 lun 0: <HP, C1130A, 3614> processor fixed
  ss0: HP ScanJet 4p
  ss0: async, 8-bit transfers

and:

  umass0 at uhub0 port 1 configuration 1 interface 0
  umass0: OLYMPUS X450/D535Z/C370Z, rev 1.10/0.00, addr 2
  umass0: using ATAPI over Bulk-Only
  atapibus2 at umass0: 2 targets
  sd0 at atapibus2 drive 0: <OLYMPUS, X450/D535Z/C370Z, 1.00> disk removable
  sd0: fabricating a geometry
  sd0: 12415 KB, 12 cyl, 64 head, 32 sec, 512 bytes/sect x 24831 sectors

which is good. However, with the 2.99.10 kernel, I see:

  aic0 at pcmcia3 function 0: <Adaptec, Inc., APA-1460 SCSI Host Adapter, Version 0.01>
  aic0: unable to detect chip!

and:

  umass0 at uhub0 port 1 configuration 1 interface 0
  umass0: OLYMPUS X450/D535Z/C370Z, rev 1.10/0.00, addr 2
  umass0: using ATAPI over Bulk-Only
  atapibus2 at umass0: 2 targets
  sd0 at atapibus2 drive 0: <OLYMPUS, X450/D535Z/C370Z, 1.00> disk removable
  sd0: drive offline

which is not. Any ideas?

Also, when I plug the camera into my alpha, it doesn't find the DOS parition
automatically. Would it make sense for ~all ports to look for fdisk-style
partitions if they don't find a native label? Or, should I just wait for
wedges? ;-)
