I've seen these dump hangs occur with Amanda invoked by inetd,
i.e. from a remote backup server, as well as when running dump by hand
from the console.  I'm tracking current by upgrading about monthly,
and it's been 3 or 4 months since the last time it's happened to me,
so from my point of view it may well be a solved problem.
