(fortunately ;) this is the only i386 i have, the rest is real computers, 
i.e. sparc(64), macppc etc.

i got the 'problem' solved -- dd got the false of, which made it look like 
doing the right thing... but it did not. the solution is: 'think before 
you dd' ;)
