RE: i386

While installing from a CDROM on a PowerEdge 6450 using an image from
20040320, I got the error:

cd0(rccide0:0:0): non-media hardware failure

during the stage where it's trying to unpack the distribution sets. That
is right after the choice for changing CD device or directory. It was
able to boot from it and made it this far in the install process.

I thought the CDROM drive might have problems, so I tried installing
FreeBSD and WinXP. They both installed fine using the CDROM drive. I
then used the same NetBSD CDROM disc and successfully installed it on a
PowerEdge 8450. I also tried cutting a new CDROM disc and exactly the
same result.

It's not the hardware, not the CDROM disc, could it be a driver problem?

Thomas
