Your motherboard is indeed using a very old VIA chipset. IIRC it's not
exactly the southbridge which suffered data corruption on the second
IDE channel when a SBLive! is used. But it's actually very likely that
it is part of the problem. I would recomment using the onboard sound or
getting a better motherboard. That's what I did when I had trouble
with a similar motherboard a long time ago.
