If you built mutt from pkgsrc, it uses /bin/ksh.  See the commit log for
pkgsrc/mail/mutt/Makefile revision 1.8, which claims that there's a bug
in /bin/sh, but doesn't say what the bug is.  A few weeks ago, I tried
searching for the referenced message-id <slrn6lm955.afs.k@world.std.com>
in google and dejanews, without success.
