Actually, he created the simpson's for the Ulman show because he
didn't want to endager the ownership of his other characters in
his strips.  Jeff and Akbar and Binky.  Binky is the rabbit looking
this with one ear.

Which could be subverted into a daemon.... hmmm.....



The artwork for the proto-daemon was done by some Berkeley kid,
John Lasseter.  He does something with computers still.

So the notion of a real artist (who makes his living doing such)
taking a sketch and turning it into a logo proper isn't nuts.
