I'm  on "1.6ZG NetBSD 1.6ZG (BLACKPEARL) #1: Sun Dec  7 22:53:47 EST  
2003" and it's functioning just fine w/o any gtk2 support.  Even the  
spell checker works! I fetched the 1.1.0 insall linux/ntel binaries  
from a mirror and did a local install.

Were you originally compiling OO 1.1.0 from source?

It would seem to me that the stable binaries still use raw/custom X11  
or motif toolkit.
