I wonder if deleting (or just ignoring) files that existed before
the current build started would be a good idea?

You'd still get flagged about anything new, but old stuff would just
fester safely.

If you delete old files, then alternate (I think) rebuilds will bleat
about new items, otherwise they would only be reported once.
