I used the same /24 mask.  I can't see anything in ifconfig(8) that
suggests the netmask should be different.

Hmm this is interesting? when it was failing I'd see an entry in the
arp table for the main IP on that interface:

# arp -n -a
? (A.B.C.107) at 08:00:20:20:00:9e on le1 permanent

right now, I don't see that - but I do get the more important entry
for the g/w:

# arp -n -a
? (A.B.C.1) at 00:10:67:00:f2:2c on le1

I see several entries for le0, but only the one for le1
