What was the work-around? I am thinking of testing it out on a Seagate
Barracuda 80 gig (ST380013AS):

http://www.seagate.com/cda/products/discsales/marketing/detail/0,1081,587,00.html

for $137 free ground shipping. Most of the other SATA drives from other
manufactures were a bit more than that. BestBuy has the:

Seagate Barracuda Serial ATA V 120.0GB Internal Hard Drive —
ST3120023AS for $199.99.

Btw, here is a source for SIIG SATA card:

http://www.yesmicro.com/shop/Product.aspx?pid=3437751

$30.99 + shipping.

My apologies if I offended anyone with all this commercialism to the
list.
