One thing I'd like to see having worked through this experience is
during reconstruct, the spare shouldn't be considered a raid set until
reconstruction is finished. 

Like in my situation where the master drive had a bad block that render
the crash, then endless reboot cycle because the reconstruction wasn't
finished when it crashed. Consequently no init and friends could be
found to boot from.
