I have 1.6Q from 4 April running on two i386 systems, likewise without
any problems.  Forcing an 'fsck' on clean partitions from each yieled a 
"SUMMARY INFORMATION BAD" message in both cases, plus a "FREE BLK COUNT(S)
WRONG IN SUPERBLK" on one.  But other than that, everything seems fine.
