Hm, my /etc/ifconfig.wi0 on my AP reads vaguely:

nwid TheNetName mediaopt hostap
inet ip.address netmask 255.255.255.0

...and it Just Works.  OS X and WinXP happily auto-detect the network.  So
does NetBSD :-)
