As others have noted, OBJMACHINE=1 will do it.

Note: it's best to put it in /etc/mk.conf. At one point I put it in my
environment, which was fine until I went to install a package. The su
command wiped the environment, and so root was looking for work, not
work.foo where the package build was. :-)
