I rebuilt kernel and userland (ie, libpthread) but not Mozilla over
the weekend. In limited use today, it seems much better so far. So
"getting closer", at the very least.

You missed one other: some people reported "xmms hangs" similar to
the mozilla ones. I've seen this, but only once.
