The i386mp_plus16_stable tag was put long before 1.6 was released. However,
I don't think there have been important changes to the i386 MD code since
then. These are mostly bug fixes or enhanced support for some hardware,
which you should not need for a MP system.
Some kernel options have been changed/added in config file, you may want
compare the GENERIC files from netbsd-1-6 and i386mp_plus16_stable.
