We'll a kernel compiled with i386 (1.5ZA..) works just fine. So it would
appear that I can't use my fastest machine for crossbuilds. Damn.

The alpha-compiled userland seems to work for the most part, more keeps
dumping core but I'll try a native build.

ps. A million thanks to Mr. Fredette for porting latd to NetBSD! I have
an old Decserver 200 running as a console box and for the most part
"it just works". It made netbooting with the new kernel, mounting disks,
rebooting from sd0 with new kernel, fixing rc.conf etc. very convenient to
do, even remotely.
