Well, I ran in the very same problem. It booted, but panic'ed almost
immediately. Apparently a bug in the SCSI driver. I gave up, and
installed FreeBSD, works like a charm.

Do it, but please do not install RedCrap :-)

And for your original question no, I never had problem with fxps. I did
with ex (PCI and/or ISA), ep (ISA), tlp even worse, but not fxp.
