I got fix this by running the latest version of "MAKEDEV".

I encounter the same behaviour on my system. I furthermore get this:

Sep 18 09:10:35 lyssa identd[3694]: main: kvm_open: /dev/drum: Operation not supported by device
Sep 18 09:19:16 lyssa identd[3711]: main: kvm_open: /dev/drum: Operation not supported by device
