MSS clamping is not necessary in an ideal network. But the Internet isn't
an ideal networking. Their broken TCP/IP stacks and incorrectly configured
routers out there.

The MSS clamping support "rp-pppoe" makes even Cisco VPN software work
flawlessly on a machine behind a NetBSD router. Many hardware router
fail to do so.
